I recently had the opportunity to help a client adopting and transitioning smoothly from Waterfall to an Agile way of working. I proposed the Scrumban approach which combines the best features of both and it’s mainly used for maintenance projects.
What is Scrumban? Scrum + Kanban
- Use the prescriptive nature of Scrum to be Agile
- Use the process improvement of Kanban to allow the team to continually improve its process
- Iteration planning at regular intervals, synchronized with reviews and retrospectives
- Decide how much work they can pull into the sprint based on the complexity of the work and the length of the sprint
- Assure necessary level of analysis before starting development (Definition of Ready)
- Use a ready queue (between Backlog and Doing) to organize
